15. BDA-Tag 2019
„Kulisse und Substanz“
24–26 May 2019
A discussion paper of the Federal Association of Architects, published on the occasion of the 15th Day of the German Architects’ Association, the BDA, states: “We must do more to live up to the responsibility of our profession and the relevance of architecture for climate change”. Under the title ”The House of Earth” (“Das Haus der Erde“), the catalogue of theses lists different approaches to climate-friendly architecture in urban and rural areas. It is a plea for active rethinking and courageous action.
Ten years ago, architects, urban planners and engineers set up the Climate manifesto “Sanity for the World” – it was a voluntary commitment designed to steer architectural planning and construction in an ecologically relevant direction.
Unfortunately, that's where it stopped. Changes are taking place, but so far the ambivalence between theoretical goals and practical implementation is still too great. From 24 to 26 May in Halle an der Saale, the idea behind the Manifesto will be restated. Exemplary innovative architectural projects, such as the Alnatura Campus by the architecture firm Haas Cook Zemmrich Studio 2050, and local projects from Halle an der Saale will be presented through lectures, architectural city walks and a Pecha Kucha evening.
Our way of life, which is driven by the idea of growth, must be countered with courageous, innovative ideas, the joy of experimentation and ecologically relevant activism. The Association of German Architects sees architects and urban planners as having a duty to take responsibility and act as initiators of ecological rethinking through new social narratives.
At the award ceremony of the 5th BDA Architecture Prize Nike (after the goddess of victory Nike, whose message is said to have an inspiring effect), architects and builders from all over Germany will be honoured for outstanding achievements in architecture and urban development.
