Add to the Cake
6 July – 3 Novembre 2019
In an excerpt from ‘A Woman’s Work or Steps Towards the Yin-Revolution’, Vera Sacchetti and Matylda Krzykowski describe the goal of a current project to transform the role of female practitioners thusly: “And yet, it is this reclaiming that is the biggest challenge, one that must take most of our attention right now: finding and using our own voices in design, loud and clear.”
The exhibition “Add to the Cake”, which begins on July 6 at the Kunstgewerbemuseum in Schloss Pillnitz near Dresden, is a resolute response to the symposium “A Woman’s Work”, held in January 2019, in the context of the exhibition “Against Invisibility”. The symposium served as a platform to highlight the work of contemporary women designers and make their influence visible. Diverse interdisciplinary and generation-spanning perspectives from science, design, theory, art and architecture set out to establish the permanent visibility of female designers.
The current exhibition “Add to the Cake” further develops the themes of the symposium, supplementing them with national and international works and ideas on the present and future of female design – embedded in a historical context that highlights forgotten contributions. The exhibition is not only intended as providing documentation, but also as a contribution to the transformation of the role of female practitioners in design, art and architecture. So-called visual fictions tell of ideas and desires for the future.
