Berlin Design Week
20 – 27 September 2018
For one week in September, Berlin will be presenting itself as a design metropolis and invites national and international designers and companies to showcase their latest products. Various forms of design, including experimental and social design, will also be given a platform.
Institutions such as Urania Berlin, the Museum für Fotografie, and the Designakademie Berlin are participating in the Design Week programme, throwing open their doors to visitors and offering exciting events. The Open Studio Night on 27 September 2018, where Berlin design studios are inviting interested parties to visit the studios, to get in touch with creative minds, and to gain insights into the working world of the designer, is a special highlight. With new approaches and innovative ideas being presented, and big players as well as newcomers in design having the opportunity to represent themselves and their brand, Berlin is once again proving itself to be a capital city of creativity.
Visitors can attend events throughout the city, these include exhibitions, book presentations, guided tours, talks, workshops, and symposia, as well as augmented reality experiences. The latter will take place at Stilwerk Berlin, which, together with the tech start-up Room AR, has developed an app using augmented reality and artificial intelligence that enables customers to virtually try out furniture made by Stilwerk. Using the app, dealers can also let customers visually experience the products, without the need for a large retail space. The collaboration with numerous universities, local companies, design studios, and agencies creates a broad spectrum of offers and influences that make the Berlin Design Week a versatile, creative experience for anyone interested in design.
