A Feast of Colour and Form.
Joseph Binder Award 2018
Weissraum Designforum Tirol, Innsbruck
– 23 February 2019
The travelling exhibition of the winning entries for the Joseph Binder Award 2018 – Austria’s only international prize for graphic design and illustration – can currently be seen in Innsbruck. Selected from hundreds of submissions for corporate designs, typography, posters, book illustration, packaging, and digital media, a jury awarded the prize to the winners in autumn 2018.
Last year, designers from all over the world were invited to interpret, through graphic design and illustrations, the motto inspired by a Joseph Binder quotation: “Colour and form are inseparable”. 876entries from 38 countries set a new record in the history of the competition both in terms of numbers and internationality. Eight gold, twelve silver, four bronze and 47 outstanding prize-winning works can be seen in the exhibition.
In the 1920s, Joseph Binder was responsible for commercial graphics in and from Austria and later, after emigrating to the United States, he became art director at the US Navy, where he had a great influence on contemporary graphic design. Following on from his internationally recognised work, Designaustria has been organising the Joseph Binder Award every two years since 1996 to honour outstanding design work from all over the world.
Admission to the exhibition is free.
