Design City LX Festival
19 October – 18 November 2018
The theme of this year’s Design City LX Festival is design as a common language that can serve as a mediator between conflicting sides. Exhibitions, talks, discussions, and events will be taking place over a four-week period, all under the slogan “Me Craft – You Industry – We Design”.
Various Luxembourg-based cultural institutions are participating in the festival, most notably the two organisers – the MUDAM Luxembourg and the City of Luxembourg. Those interested in the working lives and environments of designers and architects will be able to visit workshops, studios, and agencies, including Deansign, Maison Moderne, and Sensity, on Open House tours, which offer visitors insights into the world of those in the creative industries. A screening of “Vom Bauen der Zukunft – 100 Jahre Bauhaus” will also take place to mark the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus. The Designathon City Challenge will see experts working together with students and design aficionados on projects to improve life in the city and enhance working and shopping experiences, while the renowned designer Patricia Urquiola will also give a talk about her experiences and creative energy as part of the festival programme. The programme delves into a wide range of areas and brings together design and architecture. It is particularly geared towards the general public, both in terms of getting Luxembourg citizens with an interest in design involved in the programme, and through the integration of public spaces, which will feature artworks and design installations. One example is the trio of artists Boijeot Renauld, who turn streets and squares into places of social interaction with their installations and simple objects.
