11–16 June 2019
Design Miami is a worldwide forum for design that takes place once a year in Florida and once a year in Basel, Switzerland. From 11 to 16 June it’s time once again for Basel to become the centre of the design and art dealer scene for five days. As the most important venue for exhibitions, new discoveries and networking, the fair brings together influential collectors, gallerists, designers, curators and critics from around the world.
At the heart of Design Miami/Basel, the world’s leading design galleries will be exhibiting museum-quality furniture, lighting and art objects from the 20th and 21st centuries. In addition to a progressive cultural programme and exclusive commercial opportunities, every trade fair has the aim of presenting exciting collaborative ventures. In the Curio exhibition platform, designers, architects and curators are invited to create complex spaces around objects, artefacts or ideas that challenge familiar design narratives and also put them into new contexts. Each stand is designed as an independent installation. The exhibition area called Design at Large provides space for large-format works and installations.
This year’s programme, entitled “Elements: Earth”, aims to explore the role of design, material and production in a post-natural anthropogenic future. The fair collaborates with new partners, sponsors and institutions to celebrate design innovation and enthusiasm in its installations, exhibitions and unique objects. In addition to the numerous exhibitions, the Swarovski Designers of the Future Award will also be presented to young, promising designers and studios.
Day tickets for the fair are available for the equivalent of around 28 Euros and for the whole week for around 63 Euros.
