Designing 007.
Fifty Years of Bond Style

Kunsthal Rotterdam

– 8 February 2015

James Bond, without a doubt one of the best-known characters in cinema history, is not only an action hero but also a style icon. From the beginning, design played a starring role in the Bond films, demonstrated by an all-encompassing exhibition in Rotterdam.

Francisco Scaramanga’s golden gun, Jaws’ metal teeth, Q’s special gadgets, and of course, Bond’s fleet of vehicles are just some examples of design objects that make an important contribution to the aura of 007. It was over five decades ago that Sean Connery encountered his first adversary, Dr No, on the silver screen. Since then, an empire has been founded on Ian Fleming’s character who has wielded an indisputable influence on fashion, lifestle, technology, music and car design. The “Designing 007: Fifty Years of Bond Style” exhibition has brought together over 500 gadgets, costumes and vehicles complemented by storyboards, film clips and graphics. All the items in the exhibition come from EON Productions’ archives.

On 30 January, the Designing 007 cocktail evening will take place allowing visitors to view the exhibition accompanied by drinks and music. The Kunsthal offers children a treasure hunt following a Bond storyline to solve a mystery.
