Bauhaus 4.0 meets Experience Design & Packaging Design
Paper warehouse at Geiger GmbH & Co. KG, Aalen
9 May 2019; 6.30 p.m.
The Deutsche Designtag (German Design Day), as the umbrella organisation of German design institutions, trade and professional associations, invites institutions, trade associations and professionals to ten panel discussions taking place under the slogan of “Bauhaus 4.0: Zukunft wird aus Design gemacht” [The future is made of design]. To mark the centenary of Bauhaus, the organised events do not look back at the past, but highlight a possible future, shaped by the approaches taken by Bauhaus.
The debate begins with questioning how topical Bauhaus is. What potential does Bauhaus teaching have for our future? And how can it respond to phenomena such as digitisation, automation, blockchain technology and artificial intelligence? The rapid development in these areas and their enormous impact on our social life force us to create trust and transparency, security and identification with creative skill. To what extent can the ideals and approaches of Bauhaus serve as a basis for actively shaping social developments rather than merely reacting to them?
The podium discussion on 9 May 2019 will be hosted by the Typographische Gesellschaft München (tgm) [Typographical Association Munich]. Guest speakers include Andrea Krajewski, Professor of User-Centered and Interaction Design, the transmedia specialist and long-standing Design Director at Intuity Media Lab Klaus Birk, now a professor in Ravensburg for interaction and moving image design and digital design methodology, and Robert Müller-Grünow, fragrance specialist and Managing Director of scentcommunication. The wide-ranging line-up of speakers promises a multi-faceted look at the role of design as a means of communication and vehicle for information.
