The Best German Book Design 2017
Submission deadline: 31 March 2017
The competition dates back to 1929 when organisers came up with the idea for the competition in response to industrialisation, to promote the art of book design in an era of increasing mass-production. Today it is digitisation, which gives the competition for Best German Book Design a renewed significance and impetus to highlight the importance of books. The jury will select 25 books from all submissions and simultaneously nominate them for the Foundation’s €10,000 prize – "Preis der Stiftung Buchkunst". Submissions can be made in five categories: General Literature, Specialist Books, Manuals, Art Books and Children's Books. Submissions should have first publication dates between 1 April 2016 and 31 March 2017.
There are three further prizes of €2,000 each to promote up-and-coming new talent in the "Best Young Book Design" award. The jury is looking for critical engagement with the medium of books and creative approaches to solutions. Participation costs € 50 for both competitions per title.
