14 January 2020
Hardware manufacturer FSB and Jasper Morrison have jointly developed a family of door handles under the title FSB 1144. This was Morrisons first industrial job – with it he found a design attitude that entered the annals of design history under the keyword Super Normal.
FSB invites friends and fans of this classic to the opening of the exhibition dedicated to it at MAKK in Cologne including a talk with Berlin designer Axel Kufus. With the author of the form design classic “Door Handle FSB 1144 by Jasper Morrison”, Jasmin Jouhar, Prof. Axel Kufus discusses the role that the British designer played in his Berlin years in the context of New German Design. FSB’s Wolfgang Reul introduces the evening with questions to Barbara Glasner, editor of the form Design Classics Series.
The second part of the exhibition, entitled “Begreifbare Baukunst – Die Bedeutung von Türgriffen in der Architektur” [Comprehensible Art of Building – The Importance of Door Handles in Architecture], sheds light on the coexistence of architecture and doorknobs starting from Karl Friedrich Schinkel to David Chipperfield.
The exhibition can be seen from 13 January, 2020 to 9 February, 2020, and admission is free every day from 10 am to 9 pm during the Passagen Interior Design Week in Cologne.
