electro ± mobile. History and Present of a Future Technology

Museum für Kommunikation Frankfurt

–13 October 2019

Everywhere, the electric car is declared to be an alternative to vehicles with combustion engines and as a remedy for the mobility crisis. However, a boom in electric cars has so far failed to materialise. What this would mean for the environment and society is the question posed by the Museum für Kommunikation Frankfurt in the exhibition “elektro ± mobil”.

The curators Joel Fischer and Margret Baumann present the pros and cons of the current debate as well as the intermediate grey areas as a laboratory and discussion space within the exhibition. The “research area” explores the history of the electric car by means of models and documents and is expanded with special tours through the post office’s historic collection of electric vehicles in the museum’s depot in Heusenstamm. The “development department” deals with the present and future of electromobility and allows visitors to navigate their way through a digital traffic and information landscape.
