Kids Design Award 2019
Deadline for submissions: 17.06.2019
The Kids Design Award is given as recognition of the best product design for children's equipment and furniture. On the occasion of the Kind + Jugend (Child + Youth) trade fair from 19 to 22 September, Koelnmesse is looking for innovative products in the categories of furniture, toys, indoor and outdoor safety, health, food and drink and digitisation that have been designed with a focus on children.
Applications can be submitted until 17 June 2019 via the trade fair's Internet portal. Two days before the start of the Kind + Jugend fair, the creators of the nominated designs will be given the opportunity to present their prototypes to an independent jury of experts from design, industry and education. The jury includes Jörg de Breuyn, founder of the children's furniture manufacturer De Breuyn Möbel GmbH, Adam Shillito, founder of the toy manufacturer Idkid and Martina Brausem, chairman of the Gesellschaft für Ganzheitliches Lernen e.V. (Society for Holistic Learning).
General criteria such as form and function, quality, safety and choice of materials as well as special requirements that take into account factors such as use by children, will be considered for the award. Criteria will include consideration of questions like ‘Does the design inspire playfulness?’, ‘To what extent can it be used flexibly in different situations?’ and ‘Can it be used as a product in a family context?’. Submitting an application is free of charge and the Koelnmesse is making available financial and administrative support for potential travel and accommodation costs.
All nominated designs will be exhibited as full-size models from 19 to 22 September 2019, as part of Kind + Jugend. In addition to the main prize, representatives from the industry will award a promotional prize to other participants for product ideas showing promise.
