9 – 13 February 2015

Our five senses – sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch – are the focus of the Material Xperience in Utrecht, the Netherlands. Their importance in different areas of architecture and interior design is illustrated by displays and through talks.

How can concentration and curiosity be promoted in schools? How can customers be encouraged to buy, and how can a physical shop floor differentiate itself from online stores? How can a feeling of comfort be engendered among hotel guests? What does the ideal workplace look like? And what is the best way of supporting the healing process for patients in hospitals? This event seeks to answer these questions in material terms. Working on the assumption that our sensations can be influenced consciously and unconsciously by design and the choice of materials, experts, researchers and industry innovators come together in Utrecht to showcase new products and exchange ideas. Over six days, a seminar programme will also shine a light on the theme of approaches to materials. The event organiser, the Dutch company Materia, itself offers over 2,000 different materials and also acts as a network that brings professionals together through conferences, fairs and exhibitions.

After online registration, participation is free.
