100 Jahre Bauhaus
19 March – 15 September 2019
On the occasion of the Bauhaus centenary, the Munich Volkshochschule is offering a comprehensive programme on the subject. The idea is to approach the phenomenon from several perspectives – with guided tours, lectures, workshops and even a study trip.
Bauhaus is regarded as a pioneer of modernity and on the occasion of its 100th anniversary, its influence is still palpable in many places. Just as the art school founded by Walter Gropius wanted to live up to a holistic claim, the Volkshochschule Munich is aiming to take a comprehensive approach to Bauhaus. What are the innovative ideas Bauhaus gave us? Which visions have had a worldwide impact? Why does the Bauhaus concept continue to fascinate us today? Which of the ideas are still relevant today? Through visual presentations, film evenings followed by lectures, weekend seminars, guided tours and excursions, anyone who is interested can devote themselves to the different aspects of Bauhaus, be it architecture, music, literature or art. The offering thematises Bauhaus in its historical and contemporary context. A study trip takes you to the original locations in Weimar and Dessau.
On 20 March, the exhibition “Bauhaus - A Photographic World Tour” opens as part of the series of events, where Jean Molitor will document the international influence of Bauhaus in Berlin, Casablanca, Havana and Munich. The Munich Adult Education Centre also offers a number of in-depth events on this subject.
