What is the relationship like between design and language learning if language is only visible through design, and design is inconceivable without language? The interdisciplinary conference entitled “Nichtwort” bridges the gap between language learning and design and invites delegates to the Haus des Buches in Frankfurt/Main on 22 and 23 June 2017. The conference is organised by Offenbach University of Art and Design and is, thanks to financial support from the Hessian Ministry of Science and Art, free of charge for those attending.

The programme includes contributions from various different disciplines, including linguistics, gaming, public and private language schools, user experience design and public safety. Various approaches and ways of dealing with speech and design will be presented and their potential and limits will be discussed.

The following day, attendees will be able to obtain a varied overview from workshops, panel discussions and lectures. Amongst these, Stephan Ott, editor in chief of form, will give an insight into the discussion surround creative and design theory of this topic area. Before the programme proper begins, there will be a video blog by Moritz Steinacker from the University of Siegen introducing the theme.
