Playing Life.
DDW 2015

Text: Anja Neidhardt

The Dutch Design Week (DDW) in Eindhoven came to an end on 25 October 2015. While we were there we came across three very different projects that we would like to highlight for you, our readers. All of the projects are currently still a work in progress, but are set to continue into the future.

The “Playing Life” exhibition took place in the Veemgebouw, one floor below “In No Particular Order”. “Playing Life” covered a very different theme: designing with living materials. The exhibition was created by Transnatural, an organisation that brings together designers, thinkers, scientists, institutions, laboratories, and commercial enterprises as part of cultural events in order to highlight the latest developments in the field of biomaterials. Some examples of the projects presented during DDW included experimentation with mushrooms (to produce everything from ink to insulin) and research into bioprinting. Even the tanning of fish skin to make a valuable industrial product was put under the spotlight.
