Silent Stars. Ceramics in film and advertising
Porzellanikon – Staatliches Museum für Porzellan, Selb (DE)
27 Jul – 26 Jan
In the “Stille Stars” exhibition, Porzellanikon Selb puts a product category under the spotlight that usually plays a minor role in our everyday lives despite its omnipresence there. This category is ceramic items that are used in commercials ranging from Dr. Oetker to Kellogg’s in order to style the advertised products. They also appear in well-known German films and television series illustrating everyday scenes. The exhibition explores the use and impact of ceramic and porcelain items in media from the 1930s to the present day to reveal their hidden messages and codes. It does not just consider the representation, but the exhibition also provides a glimpse behind the scenes when the production designer on the film “Grüner wird's nicht” discusses the choice of props using film clips.
