The Power of Making
Wasserschloß Klaffenbach, Chemnitz
– 1 February 2015
The course in ceramics and glass design at the Burg Giebichenstein Kunsthochschule Halle is unique in Germany. “The Power of Making” has now given it a platform in Chemnitz within which projects are shown and also the details of the course are explained.
In 2015, Burg Giebichenstein celebrates its 100th anniversary. Ceramics and glass design have been taught there for 80 and 40 years respectively. In line with the saying “working like a craftsman – thinking like a designer” emphasis is placed in the training on this course both on theory and practical skills. At the interface between industrial design craft students are taught design and implementation skills in various materials. In “The Power of Making” exhibition, semester and final projects can be viewed giving an insight into the course and its profile. It is hoped that interest in traditional and yet current materials such as glass, ceramics and porcelain will be aroused.
An information day on the ceramics and glass design course takes place on 24 January. A discussion panel entitled “Designhandwerk – Handwerk im Design” is to be held on 1 February.
