form Nº 286. The Surface Issue
We let surfaces, our focus theme, speak for themselves by presenting over 40 surfaces from all disciplines of design – and beyond. From professional product photography through baroque porcelain to conceptual textiles: the form editorial team has put together a collection of the most interesting, relevant and the most beautiful surfaces and provided them with a legend.
As always there are three selected articles complemented with additional visuals from this issue that you can read online on our website.
In our Interview with Nadine Göpfert and Lucas Gutierrez, the fashion and textile designer and the video artist give us their view of the surface from very different perspectives. In Thansau in Bavaria, surfaces have been printed for more than 30 years. In an interview, the trained textile designer and design director at Schattdekor Claudia Küchen explains what role design plays in Printing Surfaces. Leonie Hunter is In Praise of the Surface. She follows the surface into the depths of the history of philosophy up to Hegel and Kant and explains why the accusation of the superficiality of the surface does not do it justice.
