The art association Bielefelder Kunstverein has been the venue for its exhibition series on architecture “Baukunst” for more than ten years. Every two years, the curators host innovative architectural projects, such as the 2013 exhibition “Neue Bescheidenheit. Architektur in Zeiten der Verknappung“ [New Modesty. Architecture in Times of Scarcity], which was conceived in collaboration with international architectural offices.

This year features the work of the architectural studio ZAO/Standardarchitecture. Founded by Zhang Ke in 2001, it is one of the most influential representatives of the Chinese architectural scene. In addition to the planning and implementation of extensive projects, such as the Novartis Campus building in Shanghai, they are experts in the fields of landscape and product design. Their affinity with nature is also evident in their use of local materials.
ZAO/Standardarchitecture participates internationally in exhibitions, such as the Architecture Biennial in Venice 2016, and has already received numerous awards, most recently the Aga Khan Award for Architecture.
