form helps victims of the typhoon catastrophe in the Philippines
We are following the current situation in the Philippines with the greatest concern. Typhoon Haiyan, which swept through the Philippines on 8 November, destroyed entire coastal villages, infrastructures and lines of communication. More than 13 million people are affected by the consequences of the typhoon. Many of them are suffering and are desperately waiting for help. Among them are several million children who are in particular need of help. The global children’s charity Plan International Deutschland e.V. is providing emergency relief on the ground. Many of those affected have lost their homes and all their worldly possessions. There is a lack of food and water, as well as medication and shelter; it is a race against time. Many children have been separated from their parents and are especially in need of protection. Having lost their families and homes they are now wandering the streets. They have been through terrible suffering and urgently need our help.
The experts and emergency relief teams of Plan International have come together from all over the world to provide aid in the Philippines. In particular they are providing emergency shelters, drinking water and food, which are still lacking. Plan is also providing emergency relief in very remote areas that are hard for relief teams to access. (Source: Plan International)

Experiments with Glass
Few materials are so versatile, so hard to work with, or so fragile. Perhaps this is what makes glass so popular with designers – it is a huge challenge, both technically and aesthetically.
Local Projects, a New York-based media design studio founded by Jake Barton in 2008, has recently won a prestigious National Design Award for their interactive programmes for museums and other non-profits which have literally changed the landscape of cultural education.
Design and the Machine
21–23 Nov 2013
A three-day conference on the history of research and visions for humanmachine systems beginning in the second half of the 20th century, and how this impacts upon the emerging roles of technology in design. Protagonists of design processes that incorporate computers, information technologies and communication engineering at an early stage will also be featured.
Conditional Design Workbook

There are now dozens of different design disciplines, but what does the term “design” now mean exactly? Which varieties have disappeared and which new ones have joined the pack? And why is it all so hard to define?
