Design talks Politics

Designxport, Hamburg

30 June – 9 September 2017

The exhibition “Design talks Politics”, held in the exhibition and event centre of Designxport in Hamburg, showcases the role designers can occupy in political debates. From 1 July to 9 September, key visuals by many renowned illustrators and designers from Germany and around the world will be shown there as political statements.

The exhibition intends to show the designers’ creative media which they use position themselves as opinion formers and to communicate with the public on political issues. To achieve this, Designxport offers a selection of international illustrators and designers with a personal response to the current political situation. The key visuals resulting from this will be exhibited in the “Design talks Politics” exhibition and take a stance for freedom, democracy and civil rights. Key visuals will be exhibited by Ruedi Baur, Mirko Borsche, Esra Büyükdoganay, Esther Czaya, Stefan Sagmeister and others. The media partner is the magazine Page, whose cover theme in the June edition is “Design! Macht! Politik!” [Design creates politics]  showing art works by Raul Arias, Friedrich von Borries, Boris Brumnjak, Teresa Sdralevich and Doreen Toutikian. These can also be viewed in the exhibition which will be launched on 30 June 2017 to mark the third anniversary of Designxport’s existence. The event will be introduced with keynote speeches by the designers, Doug Chayka from America and Memed Erdener from Turkey. Finally, guests will be invited to a politically themed dinner cooked by Kitchen Guerilla. For this event it is necessary to register in advance and buy a ticket. The exhibition in the following months will be free of charge.
