Federal Ecodesign Prize 2018
Submission deadline: 9 April 2018
The slogan of this year's Ecodesign competition is “Good design has nothing to hide”. From 15 January to 9 April 2018, companies, designers and students can compete with their submissions of products, services and concepts that combine design quality with environmental awareness. The travelling exhibition “Bundespreis Ecodesign 2017” is at the Museum Information Kunst in Ludwigsburg until 18 February 2018.
The Federal Ecodesign Award has been awarded since 2012 by the Federal Ministry for the Environment and the Umweltbundesamt in collaboration with the International Design Centre Berlin. The four categories in which projects can be submitted are Products, Services, Concepts and Young Talent. The latter is aimed at students and graduates who have graduated within the last three years. The same standards in quality apply to all categories: all submissions should demonstrate an exceptionally high degree of innovation, outstanding design quality and environmental compatibility throughout the entire life cycle of the product. It should also be noted that the products must be available on the German market or aimed at them. International designers can also participate in the competition, provided they fulfil this condition. The quality of the submissions will be assessed in a multi-stage process by experts from the Umweltbundesamt, the project advisory board and an interdisciplinary jury.
The nominated and award-winning submissions will also receive public presentations of the projects in various media, as well as the opportunity of participating in a travelling exhibition. Winners from the Young Talent category will also receive prize money of 1,000 Euros.
Alongside the call for submissions to the Federal Ecodesign 2018, award-winning projects from last year’s competition can be seen at the first stop of the travelling exhibition at the Museum Information Kunst in Ludwigsburg from 15 January to 18 February 2018. A free, all-day workshop with Ulrike Eberle on “Ecodesign: Environmental and Sustainability Assessment of Products and Services” will take place on 12 February as part of the supporting programme.
