Designtransfer, UdK Berlin
28 April – 15 May 2015
Typically masculine? Obviously feminine? According to the old cliché, blue is for boys and pink for girls. The exhibition “Rethink” demonstrates and discusses how ideas of gender in everyday objects can be manifested.
From 28 April 2015, Designtransfer, the gallery and transfer point of the design faculty at UdK Berlin, presents Rethink, an exhibition staged by the international Gender Design Network (iGDN) and a selection of projects by UdK students. Internationally renowned artists will be showing their view of the things and reflecting on everyday objects that have gender-sensitive and gender-insensitive design. The exhibits demonstrate contemporary attitudes to male and female elements, and stereotypical presentation of gender. Alessandro Mendini, Alexa Lixfeld and Matali Crasset are some of the people involved in the exhibition. Selected exhibits by UdK students that have been developed in the Gender Troublers course under the direction of Annie Goh complement the exhibition. The exhibition will be launched on 24 April 2015 and will be accompanied by a talk on gender design by experts in the field.
