Splash Drone

Text: Habib Duman

These days, remote-controlled flying objects are increasingly being used not just for military purposes, but for transportation and documentation, too. Drones with integrated cameras have been rapidly adopted by private users, becoming a favourite tool of amateur film-makers and extreme sports fanatics in particular. And with the drone trend having long since taken hold on crowdfunding platforms such as Kickstarter and Indiegogo, new projects are now gaining financial backing and the range of available products is continuing to grow.

The Splash Drone is the result of a Kickstarter project with which the firm Urban Drones aims to revolutionise the market. With its special waterproof frame – allowing it to take off from and land on water – it will be of particular interest to those who enjoy water sports. According to Alex Rodriguez, the Splash Drone’s designer and developer, the drone will offer autonomous functions such as a follow me mode, which allows it to automatically follow its pilot, and a return home mode that lets the user send the drone back to its take-off position. In addition, the drone’s flight route can be preprogrammed via an app.
