At the Faculty of Design, a professorship (salary group W2) for the teaching and research area

“Computer Generated Object Design (CGO) – Virtual Object Design”

is to be filled for the winter semester 2023/2024 or later.

Your Profile

The sought-after lecturer should effectively impart design skills to an international standard. Sound experience as a designer in the field of form and object design in a digital environment is required and must be proven.

An understanding of the interlocking of real-analog and virtual-digital design processes in object and form development – both in concrete and speculative contexts – is expected. The position requires the ability to connect the physical and digital worlds in three-dimensional space and to convey the resulting manufacturing methods (3D printing, rapid prototyping).
Teaching experience in a university context is required. Teamwork skills and a willingness for interdisciplinary cooperation, as well as an interest in planning and conducting research-led teaching projects, are also part of the requirements profile. At the appropriate time, an expert opinion on the special aptitude for artistic work must be submitted.

Your Responsibilities

The sought-after lecturer should be able to teach the design of forms and objects in the digital design space within the context of the existing teaching areas. Since design for communication and media has now naturally reached 3D space, the focus is not on the industrial production of a product, but on the fundamental teaching of form awareness, the competence for the communication qualities of objects, and the associated digital processes. Furthermore, it involves understanding digital design and the manufacturing methods of the future.

The integration of the module into interdisciplinary design processes is expected, as is dedicated participation in the further development of the faculty and university and cooperation in academic self-administration.

Employment Requirements

A completed university degree. The special aptitude for academic work must be demonstrated by the quality of a doctorate or by other proof (expert opinion on achievements equivalent to a doctorate). Alternatively, proof of special aptitude for artistic work (expert opinion on special aptitude for artistic work) must be provided. Pedagogical aptitude and special achievements in the application or development of scientific knowledge and methods in at least five years of professional practice, which must have been acquired after completing the university degree and of which at least three years must have been spent outside the university sector; in special cases, proof of professional practice outside the university sector can be provided by demonstrating that a significant part of the professional activity was carried out in cooperation between a university and extra-university professional practice for a period of at least five years. In particularly justified cases, candidates who can demonstrate additional artistic achievements may also be appointed; in this case, at least three years of professional practice outside the university sector should be proven.

Appointment to civil servant status is possible for those who have not yet reached the age of 52. After fulfilling the civil service requirements, appointment to civil servant status for life is intended.

People with severe disabilities will be given preferential consideration if their aptitude, qualifications, and professional performance are otherwise essentially equal.

The university particularly aims to increase the proportion of women in the academic sector. Applications from women are expressly encouraged. TH Nuremberg first received the "Family-Friendly University" certificate in 2005.
