A publication full of historical and political facts, innovative ideas, and new projects on the topic of empathy: This is "Empathy Revisited," the catalog of the fifth Istanbul Design Biennial. This event particularly focused on the theme of food and its connection to empathy. The accompanying catalog aims to convey design that considers not only the immediate users but also the components that are inevitably influenced by new objects or actions. Specifically: research, such as that from the FRAUD research archive, which deals with the EU-Morocco fisheries partnership agreement. Or projects like "The Revolution Woodstove" by Studio Bits to Atoms: an outdoor stove that can be used as a refuge for demonstrators in cold weather or for heating food and drinks. The Design Biennial also developed the "Critical Cooking Show" format, a series of films, lectures, and performances that reinterpreted the kitchen as a central space for design thinking and production. In addition to projects on the theme of food, empathy was also explored and questioned in other projects. For example, what does the world look like from a machine's perspective? Or is virtual reality nothing more than an empathy machine that allows one to empathize and imagine oneself in anything? The book is amply filled with the most diverse suggestions on the topic of empathy – there's something for everyone. WW
