Behind Bars – Fritz Frenkler on Design in the Context of Prisons and His Work for Apple

While researching for form 291 on the topic of security, Anton Rahlwes and Nina Sieverding came across the "Haftsache" (Case of Detention) project, a cooperation between TU Munich and the Free State of Bavaria. As part of a course, students designed products that were subsequently manufactured in correctional facilities. The initiator and supervising professor of the course was Fritz Frenkler. He is a trained industrial designer and has worked worldwide for companies such as Frogdesign, AEG, Louis Vuitton, and Apple. He was also chief designer at Deutsche Bahn. The form editorial team spoke with him about social design, Steve Jobs, and a ping-pong paddle that heralded the beginning of Frenkler's design career.
