form 240 – Learning from Children / Playful Design
Design for children - Walter Benjamin actually already said everything fundamental about this topic. He points out, among other things, that children are attracted to waste products, recognizing in them "the face that the world of things turns precisely to them, to them alone." This does not refer to the trash that often clogs up toy departments today. However, fleeing to high-quality wooden toys is probably not the solution for all age groups either.
Claus Richter, a true luminary in toy design, visits both worlds for us: Manufactum and Toys'R'us. Franziska Beyer searches for new playground concepts, and Barbara Schär speaks with designer Thomas Lupo, who worked with children in Brazil for months.
