form 216 – All systems go! / The green Issue
As long as a product fascinates with its design, most people are completely indifferent to how it affects people or the environment. Even Steve Jobs was sure of this until Greenpeace activists demonstrated in front of the Apple flagship store in New York in 2007, demanding "a greener Apple." As a result, Jobs was contrite and promised to forego toxic chemicals and take over the recycling of old computers. Congratulations to Greenpeace!
In our cover story, Knuth Hornbogen discusses current projects and aspects of sustainable design, while Jasper Morrison calls for more responsibility and Günther Horntrich, professor of design and ecology in Cologne, reports from practice and identifies problems. Losing sight of ecology is dangerous, especially for designers whose numbers of designed products are constantly growing. Also in the future.
