form 218 – Communicating Culture / The Art of communicating Art
The year 2008 saw a plethora of major furniture fairs. The Netherlands was the first guest country to present itself in the Deutz halls, and an exhibition celebrating 26 years of Nils Holger Moormann captivated visitors at the Cologne Museum of Applied Arts. Our editor Katharina Altemeier even spent a trial night in his magnum opus "berge," which he himself would never call a design hotel, and delivered a thrilling report. In Milan, on the other hand, Konstantin Grcic staged the design process of his latest chair, Myto, as a colossal "making-of" installation. We present the detailed, exclusive steps of the first relevant cantilever chair since the Panton Chair, spanning seven pages.
And our cover story is also highly relevant: Markus Zehentbauer asked leading designers how working for cultural institutions differs from working for purely commercial clients. There's no doubt: Without designers, some queues at museum, theater, and concert hall box offices would be significantly shorter.
