"Design can be studied at a wide variety of institutions (universities of applied sciences, universities, art academies), and the respective location-specific context is crucial. The teaching objectives of the educational institutions naturally differ, and this is both desired and necessary. If educational institutions focus very explicitly on a precisely defined professional field, such as that of the automotive designer, their entire offering is subordinated to the current self-perception of this profession and its supposed development. (...) Then there are those degree programs that consciously do not allow themselves to be reduced to a defined professional profile. In these degree programs, the primary goal is to explore the students' very personal interests."

This resolution was signed at the Rectors' Conference of Art Academies by leading representatives of the German higher education landscape. We are discussing it.
