Our relationship with history is ambivalent. Who hasn't wrestled with their personal past – one wrong decision or another, or a missed opportunity? Our respective national pasts also give us no peace. On closer inspection, we realize that traditions only come into being when they are constantly dusted off (or at least dust is stirred up), when perspectives are developed, and when there is a high degree of flexibility. For this reason, we chose the seemingly contradictory title "Renewable Tradition" for this issue.

Among other things, we present a large infographic overview with surprising details on German manufacturing tradition, Mark Adams talks in an interview about Vitsœ's business model, we report on the Finnish reinvention of a legend at Artek, and look at successful family businesses in Italy.
