Places are occupied by people, shaped by them, and sometimes abandoned again. They are contexts that continuously change through their use as well as their non-use. In the course of working on the topic of "Abandoned Places," we broadened our perspective to acknowledge that while the state of abandonment was our starting point, it also concerns the changeability of this state. For a place abandoned for various reasons was once vibrant and can be revitalized. To capture this changeability and the associated transitional states of places, the title of our issue is "Non-Places."
