From inconvenience to catastrophe, life is full of small and large threats that, like our environment, are subject to constant change. From safety precautions and education on the correct course of action in an emergency, to aftercare and the (hopefully occurring) learning effect, design can offer important solutions at all levels of danger and, in the case of products and systems, is often a decisive factor in preventing danger from the outset. Using different examples, we examine how the phenomenon of danger and design influence each other.
Furthermore, based on her 1943 novel "The Fountainhead", we explore the role that design played in the work of the writer Ayn Rand. In the "Discourse" section, we investigate the relationship between the disciplines of design and anthropology, looking for interfaces, parallels and interactions.
