form 245 – From I to We / Me We
We've already moved past the "Me" generation – has the time now come for sharers and caregivers? In this issue, we explore the pros and cons of open-source design. We're interested in the discredited business of charity and design for developing countries, as well as emerging "glocal communities" and "crowd" strategies for self-production, fundraising, and distribution. For example, Beck, who released his album "Song Reader" only in the form of sheet music, or the phenomenal success of Kickstarter. We also report on new forms of virtual and shared workspaces for office nomads, and we examine the downside of sharing and whether copying and theft can still be considered crimes in today's postmodern design world.
