LOGO. The art of the symbol
A logo should be distinctive, easy to recognize, yet adaptable and, above all, timeless. One could say, therefore, that designing a logo is a high art. The art catalog "LOGO. The Art with the Sign," accompanying the exhibition of the same name (October 23, 2016 to March 19, 2017) at the Museum für Konkrete Kunst Ingolstadt, visually and textually explores the relationship between the concrete artist and logo designer. It highlights the historical development of individual, well-known brands, demonstrating the reduction of ornamental elements in logos, moving towards characteristics also found in Concrete Art: basic forms, signal colors, and formal reduction. Featured are well-known logos and their designers, such as Karl Duschek for Messe Frankfurt, Wolfgang Schmittel for Braun, and Kurt Weidemann for Deutsche Bahn. Furthermore, the catalog is supplemented by current texts and interviews by and with art historians, cultural scientists, designers, and brand strategists. Divided into sections "Form," "Color," and "Word and Image," the catalog presents the visual theme with diverse examples. The entire project arose from the intention to bring design and Concrete Art closer together in the future.
