The Faculty of Design, with Bachelor's programs in Communication Design, Product and Object Design, and the Master's program in Design, has a 120-year, future-oriented tradition of artistic and creative education. Photography and the creation of digital image media, as well as their reflection, are fundamental to all design areas and processes. We are therefore looking for an internationally active, team-oriented, and interdisciplinary creative personality with a great passion for teaching and cooperation to represent this teaching and research area.
Your Responsibilities
- You will provide subject-specific teaching, particularly in the BA programs Communication Design and Product and Object Design, on the technology, application, ethics, history, and aesthetics of photography.
- You will manage and further develop the existing photo studios and laboratories.
- You will conduct your own independent research and further develop your field.
- You will regularly participate in subject-related and professional development training.
- You will represent your teaching and research areas to the public, in academia, at the university, in the region, and beyond.
- You will actively participate in the development process of the Faculty of Design.
- You will work inter-/transdisciplinarily and contribute your teaching and research areas of "Photography/Creation of Digital Image Media" to other faculties of the university.
- Furthermore, you will provide teaching exports to other study programs of the university if required.
You possess
- a completed university degree.
You have
- completed an artistic-creative degree and can demonstrate several years of exhibition/publication activity,
- a didactic concept for teaching techniques, history, ethics, aesthetics, and practice of digital image creation, especially photography,
- enjoyment of and experience in teaching, you are open to innovative teaching and learning methods and are motivated to promote creative developments,
- proof of your own work that deals with new photography-based tools, such as photogrammetry, 3D scanning, 3D printing, AR, CGI, or AI, and
- photographic and conceptual expertise in compositing, lighting direction, and image staging.
You have
- excellent communication, cooperation, and teamwork skills, as well as the willingness to develop personally and professionally.
Desirable are
- international networking and experience.
General employment requirements according to § 36 of the Higher Education Act of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (Hochschulgesetz-HG)
- Completed university degree;
- special aptitude for scientific work, usually demonstrated by the quality of a doctorate;
- special achievements in the application or development of scientific knowledge and methods, which have been accomplished during five years of professional practice, of which at least three years must have been outside the higher education sector, in a field corresponding to the aforementioned subjects.
- Deviating from the latter two employment requirements, an appointment can also be made if a special aptitude for artistic work and additional artistic achievements are demonstrated. Proof of additional artistic achievements is usually provided by special achievements during five years of artistic activity, of which at least three years must have been outside the higher education sector.
