Apply now: "Design Campus" Summer School at Pillnitz Castle

This summer, the Kunstgewerbemuseum (Museum of Decorative Arts) of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden (SKD) will transform Pillnitz Palace and Park into a "Design Campus": The six-week summer school on "Design and Democracy" will take place this year from July 18 to August 28, 2021.

"With the Design Campus, the Kunstgewerbemuseum returns to its roots as a teaching and educational collection almost 150 years after its founding in 1876," explains Thomas A. Geisler, Director of the Kunstgewerbemuseum. "Then a reaction to the upheavals of industrialization, the founding concept is being re-envisioned for the 21st century against the backdrop of societal transformation through digitalization and climate change – as a place and school for utopias."

The "School of Utopias" will address global issues in twelve one-week workshops through project work, lectures, and discussion rounds, but will also deal with future projects of the Kunstgewerbemuseum.

Anyone who wishes to change the world through design can apply. The "Design Campus" project places particular emphasis on diversity and inclusion. In addition, there is the possibility to apply for scholarships or discounts. The working language is English. Up to 15 participants are planned per workshop, and applications are now open.
