What: Underscore, medial capital I, asterisk or colon? The use of gender-sensitive language raises many questions. Namely: which gender-sensitive signs are used when? And what are the creative options for dealing with them?

The author and designer Hannah Witte answers these questions in her book "Typohacks," the first manual for gender-sensitive language and typography. What originally started as a thesis developed, with the help of the editors-in-chief of "form" magazine, into a spectacular crowdfunding campaign that far exceeded the target and generated a large media response. "Typohacks" was awarded the iphiGenia Gender Design Award. Since the end of 2021, the book has been available from form publishers.

As part of the first book presentation of "Typohacks" at the German Museum of Books and Writing, author Hannah Witte will provide insights into her design and content work. In conversation with Anton Rahlwes and Nina Sieverding (both editors-in-chief of "form"), the author and designer will reflect on the collaborative work process on this important publication.
