Alexander von Vegesack is a collector through and through. Raised in humble circumstances, he began rummaging through flea markets as a teenager. His curiosity and search for new pieces led him all over the world. From 1989 to 2010, he was curator and museum director of the Vitra Design Museum, which he helped build. Later, he sold part of his Thonet collection to the Austrian state to acquire the Domaine de Boisbuchet – a vast estate in France that becomes a temporary home every summer for young designers from all over the world. We visited Alexander at his home in the Domaine and recorded a podcast episode at his living room table. He talks about dinner invitations at Ray Eames's, the "Fucktory," his legendary club in Hamburg, Thonet loungers on Malibu beach, his friendship with Billy Wilder, and why celebrations are so important.
