The Hochschule für Gestaltung Schwäbisch Gmünd (HfG Schwäbisch Gmünd) is a traditional institution of national and international renown that offers a broad spectrum of design degree programs. With approximately 700 students, it is a highly specialized state university of applied sciences in the state of Baden-Württemberg. It cooperates with numerous companies and institutions and is excellently networked internationally.

The university is a legal entity under public law and employs approximately 25 professors and approximately 45 staff members. Its budget is approximately 6 million euros. Responsibilities
The Chancellor, as a full-time member of the Rectorate, is responsible for business, property, and infrastructure, as well as human resources, and manages the university administration in cooperation and coordination with the Rector. This person is the budget officer.

Profile

  • For this position, the university is seeking a team-oriented personality with strong organizational, planning, and economic competencies, as well as assertiveness and decisiveness, combined with a cooperative and integrative leadership style.
  • Experience in a leadership position, particularly in human resources and economic administration, is expected.
  • Knowledge and experience in the management of cultural or scientific institutions, including human resources management, as well as in budget, labor, human resources, and administrative law in the public sector are advantageous.
  • Commitment to service-oriented administrative practice, an understanding of the structure and working methods of a university specializing in design, and good English language skills are desirable.


Requirements
To be appointed Chancellor, a person must have the qualification for a judicial office or for a higher administrative service or another university degree and, on the basis of several years of leading professional activity, particularly in human resources and economic administration, can be expected to be able to meet the demands of the office.

The selection process will be conducted in two stages. Interviews are scheduled for early summer. The election of the Chancellor is expected to take place in a joint meeting of the University Council and the Senate in October 2023. Depending on the qualifications, this will involve an appointment as a temporary civil servant or a fixed-term employment contract. Remuneration will be according to salary group W 2 plus performance-related pay in accordance with the regulations of the State Remuneration Act.
