West Saxon University of Applied Sciences Zwickau educates around 3,000 students across eight faculties.

At the Faculty of Applied Arts Schneeberg, the following position (m/f/d) is to be filled permanently as soon as possible:
Professor for Surface and Textile Design (Salary Group: W2, full-time, Reference No. Zw AK 117)

Your Responsibilities
You will represent teaching and research activities in the field of textile art and surface design. You are willing to undertake teaching assignments in professionally related areas as well as in continuing education programs at the university. You are willing and able to conduct the teaching courses in German and English. The further development of the organizational, content-related, and methodological-didactic concepts and materials of your represented degree programs, as well as advising and mentoring students (e.g., within the framework of project and thesis work or internships), are also among your duties.
In addition to teaching, you are characterized by research and development activities with partners from industry and academia. You have extensive professional experience through your own freelance artistic activities. Publication activities and the acquisition of third-party funding are part of your research activities. You maintain contacts with corporate practice and further expand our cooperation network. You actively participate in academic self-governance and promote interdisciplinary cooperation in teaching and research.

Your Profile
We are looking for a personality who, with an interdisciplinary design understanding in the field of tension between experiment and application, addresses the following topics in teaching and research:

  • Surface design,
  • Textile object design,
  • Experimental surface design,
  • Complex design of figures, forms, and spatial textiles,
  • Practical and entrepreneurial experience, imparting methodological competence.
In addition to the general civil service requirements, the following employment requirements, taking into account § 58 SächsHSFG, should be met:
  • completed university degree in a relevant or related field of study for the teaching area,
  • pedagogical aptitude and university didactical knowledge, preferably acquired through teaching experience at universities in related fields,
  • special ability for scientific work and
  • special achievements in the application or development of scientific knowledge and methods in at least five years of professional practice, of which at least three years outside the university sector.

We are looking for a personality who, through appropriate practical and scientific activities, wishes to further expand practice-oriented teaching and applied research in the university's profile areas. Experience in acquiring third-party funding and supervising research projects is advantageous. For the increasing internationalization of the university, you have very good written and spoken English skills. International experience is desired.
