Out now: form 296 – Generations

OK, BOOMER! Everywhere they sit, the old people in power who block progress and yet complain that everything used to be better. For years, the proportion of older eligible voters has grown, while children demonstrate in the streets for a future worth living. However, with this new issue on the topic of design and generations, we don't want to play the blame game. We wouldn't be form if we didn't look at the problem a little more nuancedly.

In design, there have always been fierce intergenerational disputes – including in our magazine. So it's time to take a closer look at the concerns and hopes of the generations: The Tsatsas family (@tsatsas) is forging its own path with its bag label, and successfully so. Photographer Elena Bulet (@elenabulet) portrays the ballroom scene in New York – a place where many young people find their chosen family. Designer Snizhana Chernetska (@snizhanac) and copywriter Inna Tabachenko (@tabachinnko) captured the impact of the war of aggression in Ukraine on people of all ages in their Paper Exhibition. Designer and typographer Hagen Verleger (@hagenverleger), together with his students, asks who actually writes design history. And if intergenerational understanding ever falters, Malin Schulz (@malinschulz), art director of "Die Zeit", has two tips: first try humor and empathy, then let them talk it out.

Further topics in the magazine include: digital cultures of remembrance and the problem of disappearing contemporary witnesses, the young fashion scene in Dakar, intergenerational objects, knowledge platforms, Italo-German ice cream cultures, and fans.
